Ashtanga Yoga is a challenging sequence of postures linked in a continuous flow. This class will focus on the Sun Salutations and standing postures, and will introduce some seated and finishing postures. Moving from posture to posture can increase your cardiovascular fitness while the dynamic postures are held to help build strength and flexibility. Emphasis on uniting movements with the breath will increase the physical benefits of your practice, and also improve concentration and mental clarity. This class is suitable for all levels.
Yoga as practiced in North America is almost exclusively Yang or muscular in nature. The Yin aspect of Yoga uses long-held relaxed floor postures to stretch and stimulate the "Yin" or deep connective tissues of the body. The two major differences between a Yin and a Yang Yoga practice are that Yin postures should be done with the muscles relaxed and should be held a longer time. This is because connective tissue does not stretch like muscle and will not respond well to brief stresses. This gentle practice will increase your flexibility, opening your hips, lower back and shoulders and will enhance your overall sense of well-being.
A classic approach to yoga that emphasizes physical detail and focus. An accessible way to learn the basic postures and breathing techniques of yoga while restoring your energy, strength and flexibility. This is a great class for beginner and intermediate students.
This is a gentle, therapeutic style of yoga that uses props to support the body to deepen the benefits of the poses. It is a soothing and nurturing practice that promotes the effects of conscious relaxation.
An active style of yoga, which links poses together in a fluid manner with the breath. Flow yoga modifies some of the more complex or difficult poses for greater safety, and also provides lots of options for each pose so that people at every level of health will feel uniquely and successfully challenged. Flow yoga can be practiced by everybody, and brings a perfect balance of energy and calm to the body and mind.
